Your Qualifications
A passion for the subject and personal experience are at the foundation of desirable
manuscripts. Professional credentials are important but not necessarily a requirement
for creating an authoritative voice in a work. In particular, we seek works
that may be inclusive of both mainstream and alternative perspectives.
Submissions
We will consider all submissions which fit the criteria we have described in
the section above, “Authors”. It may take up to eight (8) weeks
for us to review a manuscript due to the volume of manuscripts we receive. In
advance, we thank you for your patience. Please review and follow the guidelines
below.
- 1. Cover Letter: the purpose is to introduce you, the writer, and the purpose
of your work. Please include the following:
- a. A description of purpose - focus on unique features of the work
- b. Your background- include credentials, relevant experience, particularly other
works that have been published and their current status. If you prefer, you
may include this information a separate sheet.
- c. How you learned about URP.
- d. Contact information- Include all pertinent contact information: name,
address (shipping), city, state/province, country, ZIP/postal code, telephone
number, email address, web site if available. We strongly recommend that this
information also be inserted in the work to assure that the author can be identified
should the cover letter become separated form the work.
- e. Manuscript returns- we will not return manuscripts and other materials unless
your cover letter indicates specifically that “all materials are to be
returned”. Please take care to indicate your preference.
- 2. Market & Business Proposal: Please provide the following information-
- a. An outline of the work with sufficient details to convey your perspective;
it is recommended that a description paragraph accompany each chapter heading
- b. Target audience for the work- please describe the demographics of the readers
in terms of - age, gender, educational background; also consider income, geographic
information
- c. Concerns/problems/Issues- briefly describe the issue(s) that this intended
audience faces and how this work treats these concerns.
- d. Please name other works that are available on the market that are similar
to the proposed work. This should include the title, author, publisher and date
of the work.
- e. Describe how this work differs form others in the market today. Describe
what is unique and how this unique character benefits the reader.
- f. Describe the mechanics you envision for the work:
- i. Word count- note that URP books usually are 30,000 to 80,000 words in length
- ii. Graphics to be included
- 3. Manuscript Format: we can accept a manuscript in hard (paper) copy, floppy
disc or CD-ROM formats. No emails please.
- a. Hard (paper) copy: 8 ½” x 11” (European A4); white paper;
one-inch (25mm) margins; single-sided printing; double spaced; 12-pt to 14-pt
font size; paginated correctly; page numbers and work title should be inserted
on each page.
- b. Floppy disc: 3.5” floppy disc formatted for PC; document MUST be in
Microsoft Word; all other formatting same as “hard (paper) copy”
above.
- c. CD-ROM: formatted for PC; document MUST be in Microsoft Word; all other formatting
same as “hard (paper) copy” above.
Review & Notification
A notice will be sent to you from URP acknowledging receipt of manuscript and
materials within one week of receipt. Our preferred method of contact is email-
please include your email contact on the cover letter.
Completeness of the submission is the responsibility of the writer. If required
materials are incomplete or lack sufficient detail our response may be delayed
or, in some instances disqualify the work for further consideration.
We appreciate the effort of each writer when completing the submission fully.
In return, our editorial staff is committed to a full and responsible review
of the work within eight (8) weeks of receipt. They will notify you of the status
by declining or accepting your work. Our editorial staff’s decisions are
final.
Any accepted work is contingent upon successful completion of a license contract.
