Rosacea
Rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic disease that affects the skin and eyes. Over 14 million
Americans suffer from Rosacea. Most of those affected by the disease are between
30 and 60 years of age. Rosacea is more common among women than men. While this
condition can develop in people of any skin color, it occurs most frequently in
people with fair skin.
Symptoms include
redness, pimples, small bumps or blisters, thickened skin, or a red
bulbous nose. This condition can sometimes cause a burning sensation,
especially when the skin is treated with cosmetics or creams. Rosacea
usually affects the face, but can also attack other parts of the upper
body. Doctors do not know what causes Rosacea. Activities such as
strenuous exercise, extreme weather conditions, menopause, emotional
stress, and the use of some topical steroids have all been linked to
Rosacea. There is no known cure for this disease.
